Ski Trails

Current Conditions

Updated 1 day ago

Happy New Year’s week! It has been warm, but the good news is that we are holding on to our snow base. The better news is that we are under a Winter Storm Warning for a good amount of snow, and the forecast shows a return of below-freezing temperatures. Watch for grooming updates the next few days. Holiday Hunt: The main trail system (Burnett County) is included in the Holiday Hunt, through January 1. While we expect hunting activity to be minimal, we recommend wearing bright colors when any firearm deer season is open as the property is open to public hunting. The Lighted Trail (Barron County) is not included in this season.

Timberland Hills

Timberland Hills is located about 9 miles Northwest of Cumberland, WI on County Highway H. This 30 KM trail system situated on 2400 wooded acres of Burnett County forest land is ideally suited for XC skiing. From gentle rolling terrain to the screaming hills of “The Ridge Run” and the “Outer Loop”, Timberland Hills offers fun and excitement for the beginning skier to the expert. Trails are groomed for both classic and skating techniques, and also offer groomed options for snowshoeing, skijoring, and fat biking.

Timberland Hills West - Lighted Trail

Timberland West is a 2.5 Km lighted ski trail open from dawn to 11 p.m. daily. Located just 1 1/2 miles south of Timberland Hills on County Highway H. The Timberland West Lighted Trail meanders through 500 acres of Barron County forest land. This is a beginner trail with gently rolling terrain and no large hills. During the ski season, the lights come on at dusk and stay on until 11:00 PM.

Both Timberland Hills and Timberland West were built by the Cumberland Area Ski Touring Association (CASTA) ski club, and are now maintained by Timberland Hills Foundation. CASTA procured land usage agreements with both Burnett and Barron Counties to build and maintain the ski trails, but received no major funding from them. Timberland Hills Foundation funds trail maintenance and operations with fundraisers, donations, and memberships.

The ski trails are typically open December through March, depending on snow conditions. The remainder of the year, our trails are open for hiking, hunting, horseback riding, and biking; trails are typically mowed periodically during the summer. Motorized vehicles are not allowed. We also share a portion of our trail system with the Ice Age Trail.
